Last weekend we took another boat ride down the St. Johns River. Our trip included a couple of side trips, one down the Wekiva River. This first picture was taken near the point where the Wekiva dumps into the St. Johns.
Just south of Blue Springs, a short cut goes back to what is called the Dead River. There is a unique thing about this canal. From many of the trees hang birdhouses of all shapes and sizes. Many have names and dates. Almost all of them appear to be hand made. I Googled it but have not been able to find any information about them on the internet other than a couple of brief mentions on blogs. If anyone know the origins of the practice, please let me know.
